Judge Grants Motion for Judgment Notwithstanding Verdict in Favor of Ardent Attorney

Following a jury trial in Chiang v. Grandtower in the Los Angeles Superior Court in Torrance, the court has granted a motion for judgment notwithstanding the verdict in favor of Ardent Law Group’s client, in a ruling obtained by Ardent attorney Lynne Ciani.

The jury had returned a verdict that included an award of damages against Ardent’s client. Ms. Ciani moved for judgment notwithstanding the verdict, persuading the court that the jury’s damages award was erroneous. The court granted the motion, overturning the award and reducing the damages to zero.

The jury also found that the plaintiff in the case breached the lease agreement at issue. As a result of the jury’s findings and the court’s ruling on the motion, Ardent’s client is the prevailing party in the case.
